One Hack to Read Books Better and Faster

In a world of unlimited information and books that we wish to consume, reading faster and understanding every book better has become a priority.

Recently, there has been loads of debate on which is the better way to study a book between audiobooks, physical books and e-books. To end this debate, I will share one trick I currently use and it works for me.

The hack is a Hybrid version(immersion reading) which is a combination of listening and reading at the same time. By listening to the audiobook and the physical book or e-book you will increase your speed, engagement and understanding of the book. I will suggest a physical book as I prefer to avoid as much screen light as possible when reading.

Why is this a better way to read?

  1. You get to read faster by increasing the speed of the audiobook to as much as double or triple the regular speed (2-3x). I suggest you increase the speed in bits and as you get used to every speed, you will be comfortable with increasing the speed. For me, slower speeds have become uncomfortable.
  2. Increased engagement because you double your attention by reading and listening and when your mind wanders while reading, you’re passively listening to the narration.
  3. Enhanced imagination: especially for the Audiobooks Read by the Author, you feel the emotions the author is trying to convey and thus, better understand the message.
  4. Improves your vocabulary and understanding as it’s easier for us to understand words if we know how it sounds, how it’s being used, and most especially we learn the spelling and pronunciation.

How to find an audiobook?

Whenever I share this hack with friends and close affiliates, this is the most common question I get. Surprisingly, there are loads of free and affordable resources to get audiobooks. I will list some and highlight the platforms I use and you might even be subscribed to some already.

  1. Youtube (Free)
  2. Spotify (Premium)
  3. Audible (Premium)
  4. Audiobooks.com (Premium)
  5. Free Classic AudioBooks (Free)
  6. **For E-book readers you can use the “Read Aloud” feature. This can be a fair substitute for the original audiobook. (Free)

Feel free to add more sources in the comment section.

Now go ahead and read every book faster with a better understanding.

Enjoy!
